Tables and Gameplay
Just as with real pinball action, the play found within Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection is simple, yet addictively fun. The 11 tables included range from classic mechanical designs, to more recent digital versions, and even include a few non-pinball machines from Gottlieb's manufacturing history, like the bowling game "Strikes 'n' Spares", "Xolten the Fortune Teller" and the "Love Meter." Machines are housed and selected from a realistic-looking in-game arcade and action is easily controlled via the triggers of the Wii Remote/Nunchuk controller configuration, with tilts accomplished with a shake of the Wii Remote.

Pinball Heaven

I haven't played a real pinball machine for many many years and I remember when all pinball games were 5 cents for five balls. When I saw that a decent pinball game was available for the Wii (which was purchased primarily for my grand children) I couldn't resist buying the Williams collection. Wow, back to the old days but with no need for those hard earned or often stolen nickels. I just purchased the Gottlieb collection a few days ago and actually prefer it to the Williams collection. In short most of the games are easier to beat and being able to play all the tables with five balls really appeals to me. I don't feel that the graphics are really all that great on either the Williams or the Gottlieb collection but that may be due more to the somewhat lesser graphics capability of the Wii versus other game consoles. I highly reccommend either collection for anyone with even a casual interest in pinball. For what it's worth, cheat codes for the Wii Gottlieb collection are available on [...]. I haven't tried these as yet so they may only work for the UK version of the Wii Gottlieb collection.
Wii Gottleib Pinball Collection

Gottleib is no TimeShock (PC) but I think it holds its own with the Williams collection. The Wii controls are what makes this special. I'm 54 and have played very similar tables when I was young. A couple of tables could use better graphics (but then I'm using an old 32 inch CRT), but overall it's a must have if you have a collection of video pinball. Because of the controls I have to give Gottleib a 5 as I did the Williams.

I've only had the game for two days now. The first thing I did was look for the codes to turn on all the tables. I'm too busy right now to play the game by Hoyle. That, and I love to slam the tables around! It takes more than a casual flick of the wrist to bump the tables. It's almost a workout.
My Boyfriend LOVES this game!

I bought this game for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it! We have an actual pinball machine in our basement that never gets used now that he has this game. The graphics are great!
Didn't disappoint!

As a HUGE fan of the Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, I have anticipated the Gottlieb Collection since I knew it was being released. Having now gotten the highly anticipated release, I can say that I am not disappointed.

I thought this game would play exactly as the Williams Collection except with different tables. I noticed a number of differences, though, and this is not a negative thing. There are more tables on this game, there are fewer goals, the table history is more prominently displayed, and credits are harder to come by--to name a few differences. The biggest difference, though, has to be the way the tables look and feel. Another critic says the quality is much more poor on this game. While I can see what they mean, I honestly saw it completely differently. Since almost all of the tables on this game are older, they do look much different. At the same time, however, my brother and I both felt that the games looked and played much more like actual pinball games. Don't get me wrong--I love the Williams Collection--but the graphics are so crisp and clear on the other game that it almost doesn't seem real. It all seems kind of digital, and this one seems much more substantive.

Ultimately, while there are a few tables I am not keen on because they are so ridiculously hard, the uniqueness of the tables here put it on an equal playing field with Williams in my opinion. There are two games with multi-level surfaces (Black Hole really freaked me out!), Goin' Nuts starts out with multi-ball and plays on a timer, etc. This game is so focused on history and "collectibility," you get to play truly unique tables. The other game might be overall snappier, but this game is just as fun in completely different ways.

I also like the realistic features that include reflections, sounds effects from other tables in the background while playing, and additional fun machines "Xolten the Fortune Teller" and the "Love Meter."

Don't let the lesser graphics dissuade you from a fun game!
Gottleib more fun than Williams

Reviewer: warwicks,
After having played both the Williams and Gottleib collections for awhile now, in my opinion the Gottleib is more enjoyable. There are some differences in the graphics, flipper play, sound effects, between the two collections, but most of these are inconsequential. The big thing for me is that the Gottleib collection has a greater variety of game types and I feel the best games here are more fun than anything in Williams. Specifically, 'Goin Nuts', 'Black Hole', and 'Tee'd Off' are more entertaining than anything in the Williams collection. I've been a pinball afficiando for 40 plus years and also appreciate the background on each game and photos of the Gottleib factory that are included in this package. Both the Williams and Gottleib collections are great fun and worth owning, but for my money I give the edge to Gottleib for overall game play and enjoyment.
